Classic American Cheeseburger

Classic American cheeseburger with melted cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and fries on a wooden table.
A juicy homemade cheeseburger served with crispy fries — the perfect American comfort food.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juicy burgers)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 4 burger buns

  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese

  • Lettuce leaves

  • Tomato slices

  • Onion rings (optional)

  • Pickles (optional)

  • Ketchup and mustard

Instructions

  1. Form the patties: Divide the beef into 4 equal parts. Gently shape each into a round patty — not too thick, not too thin. Press a small dent in the center of each (this helps them cook evenly).

  2. Season: Sprinkle both sides with salt and pepper.

  3. Cook the patties: Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook for about 3–4 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked to your liking.

  4. Add the cheese: Place a slice of cheddar on top of each patty. Cover the pan for 30 seconds to let it melt.

  5. Toast the buns: Place your burger buns cut-side down on the skillet for 20–30 seconds until golden.

  6. Assemble your burger: Start with the bottom bun. Add lettuce, tomato, and the cheesy patty. Top with onion rings or pickles if you like. Add ketchup and mustard. Finish with the top bun.

Tip

Serve with crispy fries or coleslaw for the full American diner vibe.
